New print additions: Osaka
Last year I turned 30. For my birthday my beautiful partner organised a week of my favourite activities which were all kept secret until days before when I was told the itinerary of bar hops, vintage shopping, and picnics but the twist was - it was all happening in Osaka, Japan. We were leaving in two days so of my 7kg of baggage, I allocated several to my camera and figured it was going to be so hot I could wash and rewear the same three Gail Sorronda dresses in the hotel bathroom. I had never been to Japan in the summertime before and it was so beautiful, vibrant, green, and full of life but good lord was it hot. The subways provided a welcome and climate controlled labyrinth of underground pathways to explore the city, eat cold marinated eggs and soba from a family mart, and reset before once again braving the dream-like sunshine and relentlessly steamy air. The combination of almost fog-like humidity, bright sun, green leaves, and a colour palette so uniquely Japanese meant that every direction I looked and pointed my camera felt like it was already curated by an artist.
Looking back at these, I am nostalgic for the taste of cold umeshu, the enthusiastic delight of the olympic commentator on Japanese TV, and the soft bathrobes of the Rihga Hotel. I have added some of my favourite captures from this very special trip to my online print collection, which I would love for you to take a moment to view.
